10,000 Tree Challenge!

So I haven’t become a total tree-hugger, but I’m on my way. Help plant 10,000 trees this month for World Environment Day (June 5th) by clicking on my Everywun badge/Everywun link (right hand side of my blog page) and signing up. You’ll plant your own tree just for signing up AND be well on your way to being a tree-hugger too!

You can also reach out in other ways when you sign up. For example, each week you'll get an e-newsletter with tips for going green, helping end poverty, eco-friendly products, etc. You receive points just for opening the newsletter.

With the points you earn you can choose to have trees planted, meals given to children in poverty, nets provided for malaria, and even provide shelter for animals. It is free so you make an impact just by caring.

Brooklyn Food Conference

I am very excited about this event. I grabbed a flyer about it at Babycakes, my favorite bakery in the Lower East Side. I signed up today. The Brooklyn Food Conference is free to attend and there are all sorts of workshops on various food topics such as sustainable food, slow food, food politics, how we can get healthy food to the less fortunate in our communities, etc. It is going to be so great with some quality speakers, vendors and exhibits. Over 2000 people are expected to attend so it will be quite an event. Sign up today! Its free!

This is Insanely Romantic...

I don't think I'm the only one that thinks that weddings are getting out of control these days. I am very passionate about beautiful elegant events but why do they have to be so expensive. Weddings these days cost more than a year of my salary!?! Do these people realize how many starving children they could feed with that money? This nearly brought a tear to my eye. True romance in my opinion. A tiny "at home" wedding. Read about it at Cup Of Jo or at the blog of the happy couple themselves Jeremy and Kathleen.

Everywun

Have you ever wanted to support different causes to make this world a better place but didn't have the time to volunteer or the money to give? Well the Everywun campaign is changing the way people get involved. Basically, you can choose how you want to support your causes. The options are as varied and as easy as you want them to be. By doing something as simple as putting an Everywun badge in your facebook profile or blog you can earn points or credit, and that is just one of the ways you can help. You can volunteer, answer trivia questions, and you even get credit just for reading their newsletter. Once you earn credit you can choose what causes you want your credit to go to. For each cause you support there are Everywun sponsors who are giving their time and money, just because you care. Here are some FAQ's to help you better understand how it all works. You can support Education, Animals, Environment, Poverty, and Health. Sounds interesting right? So go check it out for yourself and see how you might be able to help.
