Naw'Orleans Night!

Oh it's times like these I am extra grateful for my non-vegetarian friends. After realizing how much we miss one of our favorite Cajun spots in Indianapolis (Yats) we had to feed our craving. Last night my room mates and I hosted a lovely New Orleans style dinner of Gumbo, Cajun Garlic Bread, and Pecan Custard Pie. Oh my goodness! Words can not describe how amazing it all was. Joe would be so proud of us. The Gumbo was better than I could have imagined anything tasting, the bread was perfectly buttery and spicy, and the pie... wow! It was too good to be true. The gumbo took a good 3 and a half, maybe even four hours to cook completely. The recipe was very intricate and I must give Joanna props for putting it all together, especially as a first time gumbo cooker.

While the meal was cooking we munched on some herbed brie and crackers, sipped some excellent wine selections, and played a rousing game of Apples to Apples. It was such a spur of the moment evening and it was a huge success! Can't wait to munch on those leftovers for lunch today :)
